What an exciting year! Rachel competed in the Birmingham Fashion Week Rising Design Star contest, made 23 dresses for a theater company, was featured in a magazine, visited the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and began working on 6 Disney-themed costumes for a school production. She also created a blog! (Well, I created it actually, but I'll give her credit for it anyway. Aren't I a good sister?)
There is a picture of the 23 dresses Rachel made. She had to adjust the pattern to fit 23 different body shapes and she did an awesome job! They looked amazing on stage.
The rules for Birmingham Fashion Week Rising Design Star contest were simple: no fabric, yarn, thread, food, or other fabric-like materials. (I'm sure they were much more detailed than that but I'm not fashion-literate.) Here was her creation: window screen, white trash bags for lining, brads and grommets for fastening, and gold beads and bath poofs for decoration. It was highly uncomfortable but pretty awesome to look at!!!
The last picture is of Rachel at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. She was thrilled to tour the costume and props departments and see how everything works backstage.
